Kanye West claims he returned a laptop with a second Ray J tape to Kim Kardashian last year. Kim claims the laptop contained no explicit content.
While fans of Keeping Up With The Kardashians haven’t heard much about Kim Kardashian’s infamous Ray J sex tape in quite a few years, Kanye has new information to reveal. Kanye has been hitting the headlines more recently due to his ongoing separation from his ex-wife Kim, who filed for divorce in late 2020 after a seven-year marriage. The pair share four children: North, 8; Saint, 6; Chicago, 3; and Psalm, 2.
While Kim was a part of the reality TV landscape through her friendship with Paris Hilton, she shot to fame in 2007 after the release of a sex tape between her and Ray J. Shortly after the video’s release, Keeping Up With The Kardashians debuted, and Kim began the process of moving on from the infamous headlines. Kanye and Kim met in the early 2000’s and were friends for many years before dating and eventually marrying in 2014. Kanye claimed that he was dissuaded from dating Kim initially due to the sex tape and her reality TV fame, but that didn’t stop the pair from pursuing their marriage and iconic Kimye fame.
In an interview with Hollywood Unlocked, Kanye claimed that he prevented a second sex tape of Kim and Ray J from leaking late last year. The story goes that the night of Kim’s Saturday Night Live performance, Kanye allegedly traveled to retrieve a laptop with the explicit videos. Kanye claimed that he immediately delivered the laptop to Kim. Kanye explained that Kim was relieved to have it returned, saying, “She cried when she saw it. You know why she cried when she [saw] it on the laptop? Because it represents how much she’s been used. It represents how much people didn’t love her, and they just saw her as a commodity.”
On the other side of the story is Kim’s perspective. Kim’s representatives confirmed there was a laptop delivered by Kanye, but it didn’t include any explicit content of the KUWTK star and Ray J. Kim’s rep explained, “After review, there was nothing sexual unseen, only footage on the plane on the way to Mexico and footage at a club and restaurant on the same trip.” Kim insisted that there is no second sex tape in existence and that she would prefer to move past that chapter in her life and instead focus on her future as a mother, entrepreneur and aspiring lawyer. Her denial of the tape isn’t to insinuate she is ungrateful for the laptop’s return. A source explained to Page Six, “The tape caused her a lot of pain, and continues to haunt her to this day. Even though they are no longer together as a couple, they remain aligned with the same concerns about how this content that continues to be used against her will affect their four young kids in the future.”
Kanye and Kim’s divorce was always bound to break headlines, but the news of an alleged sex tape invokes a strong sense of deja vu. The truth of a possible second sex tape remains a mystery, as both Kanye and Kim seem vehement on their sequence of events. Regardless, no one is likely to get their hands on the laptop again after Kim received it from her ex-husband. While the fallout of their marriage continues to unfurl dramatically, it’s a relief that Kanye is still dedicated to Kim and his children’s happiness. Any Keeping Up With The Kardashians fan knows that a second tape could complicate those matters.
