PlatinumGames recently confirmed the Babylon’s Fall demo will come to PS4 and PS5 consoles one week before the game’s March 3 launch date.
Free PlayStation demos for PlatinumGames’ Babylon’s Fall will go live one week prior to the game release; meanwhile, the PC trial version won’t launch until late March. A hack-and-slash role-playing adventure, publisher Square Enix and developer PlatinumGames finally began sharing details about Babylon’s Fall during a 2019 State of Play stream. The companies most notably showcased official gameplay of the RPG during PlayStation-branded broadcast, a welcome reveal following the dearth of information shared at its E3 2018 unveiling.
Babylon’s Fall counts among another of Square Enix’s live-service endeavors, a content model the storied Japanese publisher has tested to varying degress of success in recent years. Marvel’s Avengers from Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics sits on one end of the spectrum, with Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda recently referring to the title as a disappointment in an annual report late last year. Of course, the incredible success of Final Fantasy XIV constitutes an example of the live-service model proving lucrative, though the online Final Fantasy experience hasn’t always enjoyed the acclaim it now regularly receives. With all of the above in mind, then, it’ll be interesting to see how Babylon’s Fall fares once it launches in the coming weeks.
Japanese publication GamesTalk (via VGC) reports that PlatinumGames plans to roll out a free Babylon’s Fall demo on PS4 and PS5 on February 25, a week ahead of the full game release. During the trial version, users can join up to three other players, the report noted in addition to confirming that save data will be transferable to the final game. This will mark the first time that users have gone hands-on with the RPG experience since the Babylon’s Fall closed beta phases, the last of which PlatinumGames hosted in late 2021. Notably, the PC demo on Steam apparently will not go live until sometime in late March, according to PC Gamer, though the specifics seem unclear as of writing.
PlatinumGames and Square Enix announced Babylon’s Fall release date at the 2021 Game Awards, news that accompanied a brand-new trailer. At the time, the companies also noted that all who pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe Edition would gain early access to the title on February 28 – three days ahead of launch. Priced at $99.99, the Digital Deluxe Edition of Babylon’s Fall boasts 1,000 credits of in-game currency, Gideon Attire Pack, Zu Attire Pack, Legatus Cape, Winged Cape, and the Acanthus Frontlet Accessory.
With the live-service model sweeping the industry, it should come as no surprise that Babylon’s Fall will split its content releases into seasons. Season 1, known as Eternal Tower, kicks off on February 25 and ends on May 31. This first run of content will come complete with free and paid Battle Pass offerings, PlatinumGames previously announced.
Babylon’s Fall hits PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 on March 3.
