Tennessee’s 2021 season is finally here and GoVols247 is back with one of our game-week staples: Our bold predictions for each and every game. The premise is simple, our four-man staff picks two things we think will happen for the Vols in that week’s game, and the catch is those predictions have to be somewhere between adventurous and unrealistic. After suffering its first loss of the season last week against Pittsburgh, Tennessee gets one last tune-up before SEC play against Football Championship Subdivision opponent Tennessee Tech on Saturday at Neyland Stadium (Noon, SEC Network+/ESPN+).
The Vols were doomed by three turnovers, 13 penalties costing them 134 yards and two fourth-quarter drives coming up empty with a chance to tie the game in the 41-34 defeat to Pittsburgh last week. Tennessee Tech, which went 2-4 during its conference-only spring season, is off to an 0-2 start this fall after lopsided losses to Samford and Furman. There is no Vegas line for the game, but ESPN’s SP+ projects a 49-0 win for Tennessee against the Golden Eagles.
Having already made our score predictions for the game, our four-man staff of Patrick Brown, Grant Ramey, Wes Rucker and Ryan Callahan each makes a pair of edgy predictions we think we will happen in the game and explains why we think they will happen. How did we do last week? Patrick remains the only one on the board as really only Ryan came close in predicting Tennessee to hold Pittsburgh to less than 75 rushing yards — the Panthers finished with 96 yards, 22 of them coming on the game-ending clock-killing possession.
