Elden Ring Gets A Pause Button Thanks To Useful Mod

A very helpful mod on PC now allows players to pause the game in Elden Ring, the latest game from Dark Souls development studio FromSoftware.

A member of the PC modding community has already developed a Pause The Game mod for FromSoftware’s latest title, Elden Ring. Barring the Photo Mode feature in Bluepoint’s Demon’s Souls remake, Souls games never ship with a pause menu in tow. As a result, even time-consuming, non-gameplay tasks such as inventory management take place in real-time, forcing players to always remain on high alert.

The continued absence of a pause button in FromSoftware games often becomes a topic of discussion shortly after a title’s release. Sure, the lack of such a function intensifies the tension and adds to the overall challenge of the experience. However, many still argue that since unexpected circumstances can even disrupt planned playtime, the ability to pause should at least be added as an optional feature. FromSoftware, evidently, disagrees, given that Elden Ring serves as yet another title from the storied Japanese studio to launch without a true pause menu. Unsurprisingly, the Souls modding community on PC has taken matters into its own hands.

As spotted by TheGamer, Nexus Mods user TechieW has uploaded a PC mod that allows Elden Ring players to pause the game at leisure. Those interested in the mod should be aware of a couple of noteworthy requirements, though. For one, this Pause The Game mod will only load if players disable the anti-cheat system and play in offline mode, according to the creation’s Nexus Mods description page. A screenshot of the modded pause game screen appears below, courtesy of TechieW:

This helpful mod could go a long way in offering some users much-needed reprieve in times of stress. Of course, many will also use it to simply answer their phone or pause for a bite to eat here and there. Either way, TechieW’s Pause The Game mod could very well become a fan favorite in the weeks and months ahead as more players attempt to navigate Elden Ring’s The Lands Between map.

Elden Ring marks developer FromSoftware’s third major release since setting Dark Souls on the sidelines with the release of Dark Souls III in 2016. In the years since then, the studio has partnered with Sony Interactive Entertainment to create PlayStation VR’ Déraciné and Activision Blizzard to bring Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice to market. What the studio may have up its sleeve for the next big adventure is anyone’s guess at present. But, of course, FromSoftware faithful continue to hold out hope for a potential Bloodborne follow-up.
