Players who purchased the GTA trilogy remaster on PC can redeem a bonus game from Rockstar Game’s roster or acquire virtual currency for free.
After the disastrous launch of the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, Rockstar Games is giving away a bonus PC game or virtual currency on the Rockstar Games Launcher. In acknowledging the Definitive Edition‘s controversial release and removal from its platform, Rockstar promised to bring about future updates to squash the collection’s ongoing technical issues and improve its performance. Additionally, the classic versions of the GTA trilogy returned to the Rockstar Launcher, and PC players who purchased the Definitive Edition via its launcher received them for free and will continue to do so until June 30, 2022.
The long-anticipated GTA trilogy remaster officially launched last month across consoles and PC a month after its initial stirring announcement in October. The remastered collection allows modern audiences to experience Rockstar’s universally acclaimed PS2-era classics upgraded with enhancements and improvements. Unfortunately, the GTA trilogy has seen continued backlash from fans due to a large variety of game-breaking bugs and performance issues, which was compounded by the Rockstar Games Launcher crashing shortly following the remastered trilogy’s release. The Definitive Edition‘s PC version was subsequently taken down, angering many players who instantly flocked to refund the GTA collection.
In an act to rejuvenate PC players who purchased the Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition, Rockstar Games is giving away a bonus PC game from its roster or virtual currency as a part of its Holiday Sale Bonus Offer. In addition to the classic versions of the GTA trilogy, players who purchase the PC version of the remastered collection from now until January 5th, 2022, can redeem Grand Theft Auto V: Premium Edition, Grand Theft Auto IV: Complete Edition, Max Payne 3, L.A. Noire or Bully: Scholarship Edition for free. Virtual Currency is also included and players can choose from either a Grand Theft Auto Online Great White Shark Cash Card or 55 Gold Bars for Red Dead Online. While Rockstar states that the Holiday Bonus Offer is free, it’s only valid once per Social Club account, and cannot be gifted, sold, transferred, or refunded.
According to some players, the free classic editions of the GTA Trilogy are unplayable due to its PC ports being not being updated since their initial releases in the 2000s. Due to software limitations, mods are also incompatible and the title cannot be enhanced, so fans are looking forward to seeing the outdated ports being patched in the future. Though fixing the remastered collection’s bugs and numerous other issues is an essential goal for Rockstar, this offer may placate some players with other games instead of the GTA trilogy while the company works on an update.
Rockstar’s complimentary holiday giveaway is an astonishing surprise for many fans who were originally disappointed with the Definitive Edition‘s launch and removal from the Rockstar Launcher. Though the developers have a long way to go before completely resuscitating the title to its full potential, this gift could help Rockstar’s flailing reputation until a fix for the GTA trilogy is in.
Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – Definitive Edition is now available for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
