Lily Collins Has Thoughts About Emily and Gabriel Ending Up Together in ‘Emily in Paris’

The release of Netflix’s Emily in Paris last October was a gigantic success. All you have to do is look at the numbers — the Emmy-nominated show reached 58 million households in its first 28 days on the streaming platform, making it Netflix’s top comedy of the year.

Naturally, the Darren Star-led show’s booming success made it easy for the streaming giant to give the green light to a second season. Now, we’re all just patiently waiting to see what will happen next to marketing extraordinaire Emily Cooper (Lily Collins). What will become of Emily’s friendship with her bestie and now roommate Mindy (Ashley Park)? How will she move forward with Gabriel (Lucas Bravo)?

So far, here’s what we’ve gathered about the second season of Emily in Paris (which, by the way, is pronounced “Ah-melie in Par-ee”):

When is the Emily in Paris season 2 release date on Netflix?

A great question! So far, Netflix has kept hush-hush about a premiere date for Emily in Paris season 2. What we can tell you is that the second installment began filming in both Paris and Saint-Tropez in May and wrapped up this summer. Knowing this, we should expect Emily in Paris season 2 to be released on Netflix sometime in late 2021 or early to mid-2022 (most likely 2022).

Who will be in the Emily in Paris season 2 cast?

We’re expecting a lot of season 1 cast members to return, including:

Per Deadline, we’ll also see some new faces. Lucien Laviscount will join as a recurring cast member for season 2 and play Alfie, “a sarcastic and charming cynic. He refuses to speak French or immerse himself in French culture. He has an antagonist relationship with Emily that evolves into something more.” What’s more, Jeremy O. Harris and Arnaud Binard will join as guest stars. Jeremy will play an iconic fashion designer, while Arnaud will guest star as a “party boy owner of a popular Saint Tropez nightclub.”

What will Emily in Paris season 2 be about?

Not surprisingly, Camille Razat, who plays Camille in the show, hinted to People that we’ll revisit the Camille-Gabriel-Emily love triangle, especially in light of the events that unfolded in the season 1 finale episode.

“It will be a rollercoaster,” Camille revealed. “It’s much more complicated. There are much more emotional scenes. My character is even more important. I think season 2, it will be better than season 1, actually.”

Meanwhile, Lucas dropped a hint to Cosmopolitan that Camille might have feelings for Emily. Saying that the first season “planted a few seeds about different characters,” he used Camille as an example. “Like Camille, when she kisses Emily on the mouth, and she’s like, ‘I’m not sorry.’ And then when they’re in bed, and I’m liking the picture, it’s all little seeds,” Lucas explained. “Anything could happen between the three of them.”

As for other personalities on the show, Darren plans on keeping them at the forefront, both at the office and at Parisian restaurants during off hours.

“We’ll see more of Emily’s work family, absolutely. Especially Sylvie, who I feel like is so mysterious,” he told Glamour. “I want to understand her more and know more about her, without totally knowing, if that makes sense … Any excuse to see more of Mindy, I am all for.”

Lily is also open to digging deeper into everyone’s backstories.

“Now that we’ve seen her with all these ‘Parisisms,’ maybe we get to actually get to a bit more of her backstory, and experience that with some of the other characters,” she said to Deadline. “But you always know with Emily you’re going to have humor and you’re going to have adventure. There’s going to be no shortage of that coming up — and great fashion.”
