He was alone at the time of this morning’s incident and there is no suggestion anyone else was involved, sources told the Mirror.

An air ambulance was also scrambled but not needed.

Carrick, from Stevenage, Herts, served with the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command.

He was being held in HMP Belmarsh, South-East London. The prison’s safer custody team is investigating the incident.

Carrick, who served in the same unit as killer cop Wayne Couzens, denied nine fresh charges against four women at Woolwich crown court last week.

They include six counts of rape, one of attempted rape, one of assault by penetration and one of controlling and coercive behaviour.

He had previously denied 20 offences against four other women, including one who accused him of raping her on a tinder date in a hotel in August 2021.

He is due to face trial at St Albans crown court in April. He was also held in custody ahead of appearing at the Old Bailey next month.

His alleged offences date from 2009.

They include 13 alleged rapes. He is also accused of keeping an alleged victim prisoner in a cupboard under the stairs and urinating on three women against their will.
