Scouting report, prediction for underdog Bulldogs at home

Louisiana Tech scarcely pulled out a 45-42 victory last week against Southeastern Louisiana, but it may have been the wake-up call that the team needed after two games.

The Bulldogs (1-1) are back in action at the Joe against SMU on Saturday (2:30 p.m., CBS Sports Network) for their second straight home game.

SMU (2-0) is undefeated, beating the likes of Abilene Christian, 56-9, and North Texas, 35-12. Oddsmakers have installed SMU as a 13-point favorite.

Here is what fans need to know about the matchup between the Bulldogs and the Mustangs.

The defense made game saving plays, needs to make routine plays

Sophomore Beejay Williamson was clearly the star on defense against Southeastern Louisiana. The defensive back had a 45-yard interception returned for a touchdown  that began the scoring for the Bulldogs. It was the 15th time LA Tech has made such a play since 2017, the highest total in the nation.
