2015 Chevrolet Spark Interior Review

Note: This interior review was created when the 2015 Chevrolet Spark was new.

Scorecard

Automotive journalists think the 2015 Chevrolet Spark has a surprising amount of interior space and a simple, modern instrument panel with useful features. Despite the presence of hard plastic surfaces, critics like the bold color accents and motorcycle-like gauges that add style to the interior, and they report that the cabin is roomy enough for four adults.

  • “Despite the Spark’s humble mission and petite dimensions – it’s fourteen inches shorter than the Chevrolet Sonic subcompact – the hatchback boasts more in the way of feature content and space than one might expect.” — Left Lane News
  • “There’s a lot of plastic within the cabin, but it’s colorful and modern looking, which distracts from the lack of soft-touch materials.” — AutoTrader
  • “Up front, the Spark is simple, but slick, with a motorcycle-inspired instrument panel. The steering wheel tilts but does not telescope. Plastic and cloth are the standard in base models, but visual and tactile pop is gained with colorful trim kits, a 7-inch touch-screen display and faux-leather seating.” — Kelley Blue Book
  • “Hard plastic surfaces are expected in an affordable hatchback, but the Spark has some well-textured trim pieces that impart a subtly classier ambience. Sporty, motorcycle-like gauges add further visual interest, featuring both a traditional speedometer and a digital multifunction display.” — Edmunds (2014)

Seating

The 2015 Chevrolet Spark seats four and comes standard with a tilt-only steering wheel and cloth seats. Leatherette seats, heated front seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel are available. Reviewers are pleasantly surprised at the amount of space in the Spark’s cabin, and say there is room for four adults. Some add that the front seats are comfortable but lack side support, and that the rear seats are roomier than those in some rival hatchbacks such as the Fiat 500 and Scion iQ. Auto writers note that the Spark’s tall height makes for an abundant amount of headroom, and that visibility is superb.

  • “Visibility out of the Spark’s cockpit is excellent, with tall seats offering a confidence-inspiring view of the road.” — AutoTrader
  • “The 2015 Chevrolet Spark can seat four adults, and unlike the Fiat 500 and Scion iQ, the rear seats are easier to access and offer more legroom.” — Kelley Blue Book
  • “While it doesn’t make for the most elegant exterior proportions, the hatchback’s relatively tall height pays dividends inside, where there’s plenty of headroom for even the most vertically-gifted passengers. Thanks to clever rear cabin packing, there’s room for two adults in back – something that can’t be said of the majority of similarly-priced vehicles.” — Left Lane News
  • “The seating is better than you’d expect in such a small car. The upright position of the Spark’s front seats fosters the impression that you’re sitting on the chairs rather than in them, and there’s nothing in the way of lateral support. Still, most adults will find the seats comfortable enough, even on longer drives. While larger than many in the subcompact segment, the rear seats are still better suited to smaller passengers.” — Edmunds (2014)

Interior Features

The 2015 Chevrolet Spark comes standard with a four-speaker stereo system with an auxiliary input and a new version of the subscription-based OnStar telematics system, which includes a built-in Wi-Fi hot spot (subscription required). Available features include a six-speaker stereo system, a USB port, satellite radio, Bluetooth, cruise control, keyless entry, steering wheel-mounted audio controls and Chevrolet’s MyLink infotainment system, which includes smartphone app integration, Siri Eyes Free voice recognition and a 7-inch touch screen.

Automotive journalists report that the Spark’s 7-inch touch screen is visually appealing, and they like the MyLink infotainment system’s crisp graphics and straightforward on-screen menus.

  • “The instrument cluster is similar to the stylish, motorcycle-inspired unit found in the Sonic, and the dashboard is simple but functional. …” — Left Lane News
  • “The available MyLink touchscreen infotainment system adds to the Spark’s modern vibe with sharp graphics and intuitive menus.” — Edmunds (2014)

Cargo

The 2015 Chevrolet Spark offers 11.4 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seat and 31.2 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded. Most reviewers say that’s a decent amount of room for a small hatchback, while some comment that the car’s tall stance and 60/40 split-folding rear seats add up to a surprising amount of cargo space. The 2015 Spark EV has 9.6 cubic feet of space behind the rear seat and 23.4 cubic feet of space with the rear seats folded. A few critics note that it is complicated to fold down the rear seats because the cushions have to be adjusted and the headrests must be removed for the seats to fold properly.

  • “At first glance you probably wouldn’t believe the Spark microcar has over 31 cubic feet of cargo room, but thanks to its taller profile and 60/40-split flip and folding rear seats, Chevy’s tiny hatchback can hold a surprising amount in its rear compartment.” — Kelley Blue Book
  • “There’s room for a respectable 11.4 cubic feet of cargo behind the rear seats, and 31.2 cubes can be unlocked by folding the rear seats flat.” — Left Lane News
  • “Folding down the rear seats isn’t a simple affair, as the seat cushions must be flipped forward and the headrests removed before plopping down the seatbacks. Once that’s done, however, you get a fairly flat cargo floor and a more accommodating 31.2 cubes of capacity.” — Edmunds (2014)
