5 Games to Play Until Kill the Justice League’s Release

With the disappointing news that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been delayed until 2023, here are some options to pass the time.

Rocksteady’s upcoming action-adventure Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been one of the most anticipated comic book video game tie-ins of recent times. With the news that the game has unfortunately been delayed until 2023, expectant fans may be at a loss regarding what to do in the meantime. Although it might be a struggle to recreate the plans the developers have for Harley Quinn, King Shark, Deadshot and Captain Boomerang, there are many other options already out in the world that may help fill the void.

If previous efforts from Rocksteady are anything to go by, players can expect a dark, twisting narrative and meaningful combat to match. One thing that is known, and not just due to the game’s title, is that the story will have players assuming the roles of the titular villains as they strive to take down the normally heroic members of the Justice League. So, games featuring that type of role reversal would make for good interim entertainment. Alternatively, quality games set in the DC universe promise distraction from the long wait until Suicide Squad‘s release.

Injustice 2 Brings A Huge Array Of DC Characters To The Table

Harley Quinn Laughs at Explosion in Injustice 2

While the first Injustice featured a story more in-line with the upcoming Suicide Squad game, Injustice 2 added several quality-of-life features that place it just above its predecessor. With a total of 28 playable characters in the base edition and a further 10 available in the game’s multiple DLC packs, it offers the most memorable representation of the DC characters it features. NetherRealm Studios managed to achieve some truly memorable multiplayer combat and a fun single-player story; it is well worth revisiting.

Batman: Arkham City Is Rocksteady’s Best Effort To Date

Although Batman: Arkham Asylum was truly a groundbreaking effort when it was released back in 2009, it has begun to show its age in recent years. Couple that with the disastrous early days of Batman: Arkham Knight and it is the second game in the series, Arkham City, which holds the title of the best representation of Bruce Wayne’s free-roaming vigilante. Featuring a significant ensemble cast, including the incredible Mark Hamill voicing the Joker for the last time, the narrative follows Batman as he attempts to find a cure for the Titan virus, which infects half of Gotham, including himself. The combat is extremely fluid and there is no sweeter feeling than traversing the rooftops of a fantastically designed Gotham. There’s a reason it was the highest-rated game of 2011 on Metacritic.

The Last Of Us Part II Might Be The Curveball That Fits, Narratively

Stepping away from the DC Universe for a moment, The Last of Us Part II may well have more similarities to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League than it first appears. Rocksteady is famous for its bold, dark narratives, something which Naughty Dog achieved in spades here. Stealthier sections also offer a window into some of the experiences from the Batman games. In particular, sections played through the eyes of Abby, who starts off as the villain of the proceedings, may provide a glimpse into the role-reversal aspects of the upcoming Suicide Squad game. With so much content here to get through, it is absolutely one of the most deeply engrossing, story-based experiences in gaming history.

Cyberpunk 2077 Is Finally Worth Exploring

A couple watches a dispute in Night City

Although it fell victim to one of the most disastrous launches in video game history, significant updates in the intervening period have finally made Night City a place worth visiting. Although different from many of Rocksteady’s efforts, CDProjekt Red has done an incredible job creating possibly the densest urban landscape of any generation of games. With new details and small features popping up all over the place, it is a uniquely unsettling setting carrying an equally dark and cinematic narrative. The combination of armed and unarmed combat is also reminiscent of the Arkham series and should serve up adequate thrills for those waiting for Kill the Justice League.

Grand Theft Auto V Still Holds Up Nearly A Decade Later

Last but definitely not least, it might finally be time to head back to Los Santos. Grand Theft Auto V offers hugely fun gameplay, from combat to flying to driving, a significantly popular multiplayer mode and a dark, twisting story that ranks up there with some of the very best ever put to digital media. With a huge number of updates to the game over the last nine years, particularly the multiplayer, it’s in as good a condition as ever. It also offers plenty of opportunities to break bad, from stealing to running heists to gunning down good guys. If that isn’t in line with the Suicide Squad moral spectrum, what is?
