The Chinese smartphone manufacturer, OPPO Pakistan has shared that the company plans on exporting around 5 million mobile phones every year. To achieve the set target, the smartphone company has decided to upgrade its assembly plant in Pakistan to a manufacturing plant, The News reported.

As per reports, the announcement to export these many phones was made by the CEO of OPPO Pakistan, George Long, during his meeting with Federal Minister for Industries and Production, Makhdum Khusro Bakhtyar at his office.

George Long also shared the company’s plan to establish a research and development centre for the transfer of technology and skill development of IT professionals in Pakistan. Long expressed optimism regarding the export of locally manufactured handsets from the country.

Welcoming the huge investment from the Chinese company in Pakistan, Khusro Bakhtyar said that the investment-friendly policies by the incumbent government have improved the business ecosystem in the country.

The minister stated that the local manufacturing of smartphone would reduce the prices of mobile phones for local customers, and would also expand the mobile phone industry in Pakistan.

Bakhtyar said that this growth would result in the creation of numerous employment opportunities within the industry as well as associated industries in the country.

Meanwhile, in another development, Airlink Communication exported the first batch of 1,500 locally manufactured handsets to the United Arab Emirate (UAE), officially making Pakistan the exporter of 4G smartphones.

Mobile manufacturing in Pakistan began after the incumbent government approved the Mobile Device Manufacturing Policy last year.
