AC Odyssey Gets Free Weekend Following AC Valhalla Crossover Stories

Ubisoft plans to host a free weekend for Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, which kicks off in the wake of the AC Valhalla crossover content.

After deploying the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla crossover content, Ubisoft has announced plans to host an Assassin’s Creed Odyssey free weekend that kicks off on December 16. AC Odyssey hit store shelves in October 2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, ushering in a new age of Assassin’s Creed experiences that closely resemble a live-service model.

Over three years after its release, the 2018 title has reentered the news cycle, courtesy of Assassin’s Creed Crossover Stories, the brand’s first cross-game endeavor that explores the ties between AC Odyssey’s Kassandra and the latest hero, Eivor. This particular bit of content exists in two parts, both of which are available for free. Those who own the older installment can jump in now to play new missions set on the island of Korfu. Assasin’s Creed Valhalla players can likewise take on a fresh batch of missions on the Isle of Skye – it’s at this location where Kassandra will cross paths and blades with Eivor. Now seems a good time for Ubisoft to let newcomers explore its reimagining of Ancient Greece.

Starting tomorrow, December 16, all players will have access to a free weekend of the Ancient Greece-set Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Ubisoft confirmed as much on its official website (via GamesRadar), informing newcomers that pre-loading for the limited-time free-to-play offer is already live on Google Stadia, PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. The free weekend begins at 3:00 AM local time on December 16, then comes to a close on December 20 at 1:00 PM. As is often the case with such deals, all progress made during the weekend will carry over to the full game for anyone who chooses to purchase AC Odyssey.

In addition to AC Odyssey’s free weekend following the launch of the AC Valhalla crossover, it also coincides with Ubisoft’s celebration of its 35th anniversary. Ubisoft was founded in France in 1986 by the Guillemot family but didn’t really begin leaving its mark on the industry until the early 2000s upon acquiring Tom Clancy and Prince of Persia IP. Of course, the advent of Assassin’s Creed effectively launched the French company into the stratosphere.

AC Valhalla landed last year to record-breaking sales numbers for the long-running series, a level of success that presumably inspired Ubisoft to pursue Year 2 content for the game – an unprecedented move as far as this particular brand is concerned. The endeavor itself will culminate in the release of the Dawn of Ragnarök expansion in March 2022.
