BlazBlue Centralfiction and Cross Tag Battle Will Have Rollback Netcode

Arc System Works announced that it will implement rollback netcode to recent BlazBlue fighting games. The titles in question will be the PC version of BlazBlue Centralfiction and the PlayStation 4 and PC versions of BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle.

The company will first hold a public test for the rollback netcode with the Steam version of BlazBlue Centralfiction on December 7, 2021, at 8 AM Japan Time (December 6, 2021 at 6 PM ET). All Steam users who own the game will be able to join the test. Arc System Works plans to release the official rollback updates to BlazBlue Centralfiction in February 2022, with Cross Tag Battle scheduled for later within the same year.

Rollback is currently the most popular netcode system in the fighting game community. While Arc System Works included it in Guilty Gear Strive at launch, it also has experience in implementing rollback to existing titles like Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R.

This news might come as a breath of fresh air for followers of the BlazBlue franchise, which has its origins in fighting games. Arc System Works is also running a mobile RPG based on the franchise, titled BlazBlue Alternative Dark War. However, the company recently announced that it will shut down the game on January 31, 2022.

BlazBlue Centralfiction and BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle are both available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. The rollback netcode implementation in 2022 will only apply to the aforementioned PC and PS4 versions.
