Capcom Chief Operating Officer Haruhiro Tsujimoto announces plans to make PC his company’s main gaming software platform over the next two years.
Capcom is looking to make PC its primary gaming platform by 2023, according to company COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto. There has been a renewed interest in PC as a platform for quite some time, with a recent leak from Nvidia GeForce Now’s servers suggesting that Sony could be bringing PlayStation exclusives like Final Fantasy VII Remake and Ghost of Tsushima to services like Steam and the Epic Games Store in the near future along with officially announced ports like the remastered Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves collection.
As for Capcom, Nikkei reports that Capcom’s Chief Operating Officer Haruhiro Tsujimoto announced that his company wants to set the PC as its main software outlet by 2023 earlier this week. As explained by Bloomberg game and tech reporter Takashi Mochizuki on his Twitter page, this plan would see game sales on consoles and PCs reach an even 50-50 balance by either 2022 or 2023. Tsujimoto is also quoted saying that “from the viewpoint of promoting digital strategy, expansion of PC platform spread cannot be overlooked. The sales ratio of the PC version in our main title has been improved every year, and we will strive to further expand sales as an important platform.”
Capcom’s games have been ported to PC in the past, but this recent announcement that the prolific publisher is planning to make PC its primary platform in two years could have some interesting ramifications for the PC gaming landscape thanks to the growing success of ports like 2018’s Monster Hunter: World.
