The Terminator: Dark Fate universe will receive further exploration in Defiance, a new RTS from Cats Who Play that’s launching on PC in 2022.
Developer Cats Who Play and publisher Slitherine have announced Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance, a new real-time strategy title set to launch on PC sometime in 2022. Interestingly, another game based on the Arnold Schwarzenegger-starring franchise hit stores just weeks after Dark Fate’s theatrical release – Teyon’s Terminator: Resistance. Instead of narratively following in the footsteps of Dark Fate, the 2019 FPS adventure took place during the future war established in The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day.
The Tim Miller-directed Terminator: Dark Fate sees Linda Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger reprise their respective roles of Sarah Connor and T-800 Terminator for a tale that takes place over 20 years after the events of Judgment Day. Many would argue the newer film offers the perfect backdrop for an interactive adventure, especially if the beloved sci-fi license lands in the right hands at the right time. Fortunately, those wondering if such a project could work in practice will soon have access to the answers they seek.
The studio behind real-time strategy game Syrian Warfare, Cats Who Play, is currently developing an RTS experience based on the Terminator universe. Titled Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance, the new project revolves around the ongoing conflict between humanity and Legion’s synthetic intelligent machine network. In the single-player mode, users assume the role of a Founders faction commander who leads their troops in the effort to thwart Legion’s machinations against humanity. Founders, Legion, and the Resistance all enter the picture as playable factions in Defiance’s multiplayer and skirmish modes, however. Further details will surface at a later time but publisher Slitherine has confirmed a 2022 release window for Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance release on PC via Steam. The announcement of a new Terminator game tops of a pretty solid year for the sci-fi universe’s adventures in the interactive medium this year. Fortnite kicked this off in January with the release of T-800 and Sarah Connor crossover skins. A few months later, the aforementioned Terminator: Resistance received an enhanced edition on PS5. And the Teyon-developed first-person shooter recently rolled out DLC that explores Kyle Reese’s origins.
While shooters and the like have proven a good fit for the Terminator, RTS gameplay could offer just as much of an exciting experience. And the above teaser suggests Defiance won’t hold back on making good use of the franchise’s core tenets.
Terminator: Dark Fate – Defiance comes to PC on an unspecified date in 2022.
