Dying Light 2 Extreme Nights Mod Adds More Zombies & Longer Nights

A fan-made Dying Light 2 mod called Extreme Nights ups the game’s ante by adding even more zombies, doubling the game’s nighttime, and more.

A Dying Light 2 modder has released their Extreme Nights mod that adds more zombies and longer nights to the game. The sequel to 2015’s Dying Light was released last week on February 4 after a slew of problems during Dying Light 2’s development caused it to be delayed from its original early 2020 launch window. The game’s cloud version for the Nintendo Switch, which was meant to release at the same time as other platforms, was also delayed to sometime in 2022.

Dying Light 2’s development problems and long-delayed release date seem to have worked out in the end for developer Techland. From a larger map and a focus on story choices to more parkour moves and a switch to a full-blown action RPG, the differences between the original and its sequel are pretty significant. All the work that Techland has put into it has led to mostly positive reviews for Dying Light 2. The game’s combat and massive open-world seem to be where the game has gained the most praise.

Modder UD24 (via GameRant) has published the latest version of their Extreme Nights mod for Dying Light 2. First made for the original Dying Light, the new version of the mod makes only a few simple but significant changes to the game. Firstly, the Extreme Nights V2 – The Return of the King mod doubles the game’s nighttime and halves the daytime. It then doubles the density of zombie crowds at night while also substantially increasing the number of zombies that spawn when a Howler is alerted. Installing the mod is pretty easy, only requiring a single file to be placed within one of the game’s folders.

UD24’s Extreme Nights mod makes Dying Light 2’s already dangerous nighttime, which will make up most of one’s playtime when the mod is activated, a much more challenging experience than it already is. Apart from the game’s zombies becoming more active and dangerous at night, players will also have to keep track of their immunity timers and utilize the game’s array of gear and consumables to prevent them from turning and dying. Players can also encounter GRE Anomalies, which are special boss-type zombies, at night. On the other hand, players can get the best rewards and loot at night.

Players that want to up the ante should definitely consider installing the fan-made Dying Light 2 Extreme Nights mod. It’s a simple yet effective mod that adds another layer of difficulty to the game while they attempt to go through Dying Light 2’s many hours of gameplay.
