Dying Light 2 Hidden Kyle Crane Memorial Includes Mario Easter Egg
One curious Dying Light 2 player has discovered a hidden hideout that pays tribute to Kyle Crane and includes a Super Mario item with a unique power.
In an odd but fascinating discovery, players have uncovered that Techland’s newest post-apocalyptic action-adventure Dying Light 2: Stay Human features a hidden hideout that pays tribute to Kyle Crane, Dying Light‘s main protagonist, and includes a unique item that is a clear-cut reference to Super Mario. Dying Light 2 officially launched last week after being in development for seven years and getting delayed twice. While being mostly favored for its top-notch parkour, open-world exploration, and thrilling combat, the title was criticized for its technical shortcomings which were later addressed by the developers who released a day one patch that fixed more than 1000s bugs that riddled the game.
Set as a sequel to the survival horror game Dying Light, Dying Light 2 takes place in an isolated urban city 20 years after Kyle Crane’s failed attempt at finding a cure for the zombie virus. Dying Light 2 follows freelance runner Aiden Caldwell as he completes jobs for Villedor’s citizens to uncover more information about his past. Taking on tasks in a freely-explorable world four times bigger than the original, players can use the title’s upgraded parkour mechanics and gadgets to easily travel around the city and evade oncoming zombies and faction enemies. While Dying Light 2‘s s new combat and traversal mechanics are set to help the title stand out compared to its predecessor, one of its most notable changes is its new adaptive storytelling, which features a branching storyline that is determined by choices and consequences that impact the entirety of the game.
Youtuber Best Gamer Ali shared their discovery of what appears to be a well-hidden hideout that features a Kyle Crane memorial and a unique item that references Super Mario and grants a special power. Located in the “Lower Dam Ayre” part of the map, the hideout can be found in a metal hanging crate that players can access by lock picking. Once inside, players can discover a shrine dedicated to Kyle Crane, with numerous photos, drawings, and voice recordings from the original game available. The bucket head doll from the original Dying Lights’ “Mother” mission can also be found and is a reference to Gazi, a minor character who was a fan favorite in the first Dying Light.
Additionally, the “It’s me…Marian!” sneakers can be unlocked by laying on the bed inside the hideout. Once equipped, it allows players to get higher with each jump, with the third jump flipping the camera to third-person and playing a similar coin sound to the ones that can be heard in the Super Mario series. The original Dying Light also featured a Super Mario Easter egg that included a platforming section from the original game, proving that Techland is a big fan of the popular game character and series.
Dying Light 2 is full of secrets and Easter eggs waiting to be discovered by curious players. From references to other franchises to hidden items, the deep open-world of Villedor features more than an abundance of secrets, and there’s likely, even more, to be found within its huge map for those who are inquisitive.
Dying Light 2 is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
