FF7 Remake – What’s In The PC Version Of The Game?

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is coming to PC on December 16 and it will include features that weren’t present in the PS5 version of the game. FF7 Remake was originally released as a PS4 exclusive in 2020, with a sticker on the box promising that it would be a console exclusive for one year, which was extended when the game was delayed by several months. The PS5 release of Intergrade extended the console exclusivity, with the game still locked to PlayStation systems, at least on consoles.

The Final Fantasy series has made the jump to PC in a big way over the past few years. This is partly due to Square Enix making a huge push to remake and remaster its old library and bring them to as many platforms as possible. This has led to the mainline Final Fantasy games on PlayStation being remastered, as well as the original six Nintendo entries, in the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster series. Despite this, the company is still willing to make deals regarding time exclusivity, with few people expecting the upcoming FF16 to stay a PS5 exclusive for long. The PC market is just too big for Square Enix to ignore, and it seems that Sony is more concerned with its exclusives staying off Microsoft and Nintendo platforms, than it is with the games being on Steam.

The PC version of FF7 Remake is almost here and Square Enix decided to skip the base version of the game that launched on PS4 and go straight to the updated version that was released on PS5 earlier in 2021. The PC version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake even includes the pre-order DLC content for Yuffie, making it the most complete version of FF7 Remake to date. The PC version has also added some new graphical features, but it will take a monster of a PC to make the most of them.

FF7 Remake On PC Contains All DLC Content & Yuffie’s Mission

FF7 Why Yuffie Needs Materia

FF7 Remake on PC is based on the Intergrade version of the game that was released for PS5. As such, it contains all of the DLC content that was available for the base version of FF7 Remake on PS4, as well as the INTERmission content that was originally exclusive to PS5. One change in the PC version is that the players need to claim the DLC items from the “Gift Box” prompt on the options menu, as the original game required the player to access PSN.

The DLC content includes three summons: Carbuncle, Chocobo Chick and Cactuar. Carbuncle has the power to create protective barriers and heal the party, Chocobo Chick has several elemental spells that it can use, and Cactuar can use the dreaded 1000 Needles attack. The player can access the summon Materia as soon as it’s unlocked, but they can’t actually equip any of them until Chapter 2. The player will also have access to different DLC gear, in the form of the Midgar Bangle, Shinra Bangle, and Corneo Armlet armor, and the Superstar Belt, Mako Crystal, and Seraphic Earrings accessories.

FF7 Remake on PC includes the INTERmission DLC, which can be accessed on the main menu. This adds two new chapters to the game, which run concurrent to the events of the story. The INTERmission DLC stars Yuffie from the original FF7, as she infiltrates the city of Midgar in search of a rumored “ultimate Materia.” The INTERmission DLC adds brand new combat mechanics for Yuffie and her party member, a new minigame based on Fort Condor from FF7, and adds summon Materia for Ramuh. The PC version also includes the pre-order DLC, which is the Cacstar weapon for Yuffie. Once the player completes the INTERmission DLC, they can return to the original party in FF7 Remake and face Weiss the Immaculate from Dirge of Cerberus, who is a new superboss. Weiss is the hardest boss fight in the entire game and defeating him is the perfect closing point for FF7 Remake.

FF7 Remake On PC Has New Graphical & Control Options

FF7 Remake Intergrade Sephiroth Cloud

Intergrade on PS5 changed the gameplay of FF7 Remake through a number of tweaks. The Normal (Classic) difficulty option was added, while the original Classic mode was renamed to Easy (Classic). A lot of the moves were improved, with Braver dealing more damage, Limit Breaks adding invulnerability frames, basic actions are a lot easier to cancel out of by dodging, and the hit point total for some enemies has been reduced. Intergrade also added a number of graphical improvements to FF7 Remake, including the addition of Performance and Quality modes, with the former running the game 60fps, and the latter including support for 4k resolution.

The game also fixed the broken door texture in Tifa’s apartment. The PC version of FF7 Remake will have all of the improvements introduced in Intergrade, including the new Photo Mode, but the people with a beefy PC can take things even further. It will be possible to run the PC version of FF7 Remake at 120fps, along with the 4K and HDR support that was present in the PS5 version. The PC version of FF7 Remake will also have mouse and keyboard support.

FF7 Remake PC Pricing & Platform Controversy

The PC version of FF7 Remake has a lot of additional content and extra features, but it’s coming at a price. The game will cost $75/£65 at launch, which is a tall ask for a PC game. The fact that the game is an Epic Games Store exclusive has also frustrated a lot of fans, especially as the Final Fantasy series has stuck to Steam on PC. The only other Final Fantasy game available on the Epic Games Store is a pre-order option for Stranger of Paradise Final Fantasy Origins.

Square Enix has made its games available as exclusives in the past, with the Kingdom Hearts games being Epic exclusives on PC. FF7 Remake was already a PlayStation exclusive for over a year, with no word regarding Xbox ports as of the time of writing, so it’s not surprising that PC exclusivity was available to the highest bidder. There is a lot of hype for the PC version of FF7 Remake, but the high price point and restricted platform have deflated the excitement somewhat.
