Ghost Recon Breakpoint Free Weekend Coming For Consoles & PC

Ghost Recon Breakpoint is having a free weekend on PC and consoles as part of publisher Ubisoft’s 35th anniversary celebration.

Ubisoft shooter Ghost Recon Breakpoint will be free to play this upcoming weekend on consoles and PC as part of the publisher’s 35th anniversary celebrations. 2019’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint received mixed reviews at launch. In spite of that, Ubisoft has continually released updates and DLC for the game. Most recently, to celebrate the Ghost Recon series’ own 20th anniversary, a Ghost Recon Breakpoint Tomb Raider crossover dubbed “Relics of the Ancients” was announced, and it’s scheduled to release sometime before the end of 2021.

The long-running Ghost Recon franchise has seen a dozen game releases in the past 20 years, ranging from tactical single-player and team-based multiplayer FPSes to turn-based tactics games and more. Over the course of its last two entries, the series has slowly moved away from its tactical roots and towards open-world shooters, and Ghost Recon Breakpoint was the latest of those formula deviations. This is once again changing with the next entry recently being revealed as free-to-play battle royale Ghost Recon Frontline, a game which has been met with little excitement by veteran Ghost Recon players.

Ubisoft announces it’s hosting a Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint free weekend from November 4 – 7, and it will be available for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Google Stadia (and PS5 and Xbox Series X/S via backward compatibility) through Ubisoft’s official site. During the free weekend, players will have full access to the base game’s content as well as the latest DLC, Operation Motherland, which introduces a new chapter to the story and the new “Conquest” game mode, an alternative to Breakpoint’s usual gameplay. Players on PC can already begin preloading the game before the free weekend period begins.

Ubisoft also shared that players who purchase Ghost Recon Breakpoint after or during the free weekend will have their progress carry over to the full game, allowing them to continue their experience. The publisher previously held a Ghost Recon Breakpoint free weekend earlier this year to promote the game’s Rainbow Six Siege crossover. At the time, Breakpoint was also put on sale to help encourage those who checked out the free trial to buy the full gam, but it’s unclear whether Ubisoft plans to do the same with the November 4 – 7 free weekend.

Despite being a two years old game (which is getting on in age for a live-service game without a large playerbase), it’s good to see that Ubisoft is still creating new content for Ghost Recon Breakpoint and using it to host crossovers and promotions, such as the upcoming free weekend, to get more people to try out the game. While it initially didn’t land with players and critics, the amount of updates that Ubisoft has released for it since then may have improved the game enough to be worth trying out two years later.
