TL;DR

  • Samsung has reportedly said that the chip shortage will continue up until H2 2022.
  • It purportedly said that chipsets and RF chips in particular will be in short supply until then.
  • The firm is said to be taking a few measures to mitigate the issue.

The global chip shortage has affected virtually every tech company in some capacity, including the smartphone industry. This shortfall has affected Samsung too, and it’s reportedly given us a timeline for when things will ease up.

Samsung believes the shortage will continue up until the second half of 2022, The Elec reported. Mobile chief TM Roh discussed the issue with representatives from over 30 partners and suppliers on November 10, sources told the outlet.

Samsung reportedly noted at the meeting that chipsets and RF chips in particular will be in short supply up until H2 2022.

Nevertheless, it appears the Korean manufacturer is taking several steps to mitigate shortages. The sources told The Elec that Samsung will push for annual contracts with chip foundries to secure chip production capacity. It’s also claimed that the smartphone maker will now stock up to four weeks’ worth of chip supplies instead of two weeks as it purportedly does right now.

We’re glad to see the company take some measures to mitigate the effects of the chip shortage. But we hope these efforts pay off in 2022, as we might see a repeat of 2021 otherwise. This year saw the Galaxy S21 FE being delayed and purportedly limited launches of the Galaxy A52 5G and Galaxy A72
