A Hogwarts Legacy companion book from publisher Insight Editions could help narrow down a release window for the long-awaited action-RPG.
The late 2022 launch date for a newly announced Hogwarts Legacy companion book could help narrow down the action RPG’s release window. Originally announced for a 2021 rollout, Hogwarts Legacy’s due date remains a topic of discussion. And despite recent rumors suggesting otherwise, publisher Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment maintains the Harry Potter-branded adventure will indeed hit digital and retail stores sometime this calendar year.
WarnerMedia CEO Jason Kilar doubled down on the 2022 launch in a recent string of tweets, which also insisted the long-awaited Gotham Knights will still arrive this year, as well. An industry insider known for reliably reporting on Detroit: Become Human developer Quantic Dream added another wrinkle to the Hogwarts Legacy talk in late January, too. According to the leaker, fans can expect to enter the Wizarding World of Harry Potter no later than September 2022, a fitting date if true since, in-universe, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry opens its doors each year on September 1.
Interestingly, new details suggest Hogwarts Legacy’s secretive release window could indeed fall sometime in the back half of 2022. This much seems evident in news relayed by The Rowling Library (via CBR), which reports that Insight Editions plans to publish companion book The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy on September 6 of this year. The September date for the companion tome could give credence to previous claims that Hogwarts Legacy will arrive around the same time.
It’s worth noting, of course, that a companion book’s release date may not correspond with that of its game. After all, The World of Cyberpunk 2077 launched in July 2020, a full five months ahead of the RPG’s December 2020 rollout. In the event that Hogwarts Legacy continues to receive delays, it’s possible The Art and Making of Hogwarts Legacy will similarly hit stores a few months early.
After several years of rumors, leaks, and speculation, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announced Hogwarts Legacy during Sony’s September 2020 PS5 showcase. The Salt Lake City-based Avalanche Software is helming the project, having previously led the charge on movie tie-in adventures and all three Disney Infinity experiences. Notably, Hogwarts Legacy will take place in the 19th Century, long before Harry Potter and friends come along; thus, players can expect to create their own witches and wizards. What exactly the character creation and other role-playing processes will entail presently remains a mystery. More details should surface in the coming months, however, especially if a 2022 launch is still on the cards.
Hogwarts Legacy hits PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms on an unspecified date in 2022.
