A recently discovered glitch in NBA 2K22 sees an NPC’s dialogue fail to load at the absolute best time to create a unique moment of comedy gold.
A recently showcased glitch in NBA 2K22 breaks the usual frustrating mold that comes with bugs to instead produce some pure comedy magic. The most recent installment of the basketball simulator debuted less than a week ago, with some notable improvements from NBA 2K21.
In spite of all the work developers put into their games prior to launch, inevitably there are always some glitches that manage to make it to the players. Though these are often dealt with rather quickly, sometimes glitches are so prevalent that the sheer number and severity of them can sink a much-anticipated release, like Cyberpunk 2077. Not all bugs are game-breaking, however, and there are bugs that do not necessarily improve a title, but can provide an unintended moment of levity that stays with a player more than if things had worked properly.
Twitter user Christian Antonio showcased one of these amusing glitched that they found in NBA 2K22. In a cutscene referring to shot efficiency, the NPC giving advice has a unique approach to take the player’s game to the next level: nothing. The intended line of dialogue seemingly does not load and the NPC is left to stare awkwardly at the player for about five full seconds in silence. What completes this unintended comedic moment is that the player’s dialogue does load, responding with, “oh, I got you,” before leaving the room.
While this is not confirmed to be a glitch, it certainly seems out of place enough to be considered one. It does not appear to be game-breaking, however, and falls into a similar category similar to the staring glitch in Baldur’s Gate 3. There is also the possibility that the NPC’s response is dictated by the player’s performance and if no improvements are necessary according to the game, then nothing is said. It is not known how widespread this potential silence bug is throughout all copies of NBA 2K22.
NBA 2K22 is still early on in its run and small glitches like this are to be expected. Given the amount of effort the developers have put into NBA 2K22 with features like cross-gen progress, the bug will likely be remedied through a patch. There may, however, be a chance that it is left in the game, especially if it is only triggered through certain gameplay conditions. The whole moment is unexpected and could become a fun easter egg for fans who manage to trigger it.
