New Samsung Leak Exposes Surprising Galaxy S22 Upgrade

Samsung’s next-gen Galaxy S22 Ultra is already the subject of numerous leaks, however, the latest information reveals a boost in performance that exceeds expectations.

The news comes from perennial leaker Ice Universe, who claims to have seen sample photos from the Galaxy S22 Ultra with quality that, surprisingly, far exceeds the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

While you might expect camera quality to improve with each generation of the smartphone, the Galaxy S22 Ultra isn’t likely to feature significantly upgraded camera hardware compared to the current model. This leads the tipster to speculate that these improvements have been made largely through upgraded image processing rather than redesigned lenses and image sensorsa welcome surprise given the relatively modest changes in camera hardware.

The power behind this improved processing quality could be provided by Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 mobile platform which promises “ground-breaking” innovations in AI and photography and is expected to feature in the Galaxy S22 Ultra.

It’s worth noting, however, that Samsung smartphones typically come in two versions featuring different chipsets depending on region. This can result in significant variations in image quality and we don’t know exactly what hardware is responsible for the sample images seen by Ice Universe. It also means that not all Galaxy S22 Ultra owners will see the same improvements. It’s also possible that some software-based quality improvements might trickle down to older Samsung phones provided they have the required processing power.

All will be revealed when Samsung officially launches the Galaxy S22 range, expected this February 8.
