NEW YORK (WPRI) — The Providence College Friars’ hopes for a Big East conference championship were dashed Friday night by the Creighton Bluejays.
The top-seeded Friars were bested at Madison Square Garden by a score of 85-58.
Al Durham led the Friars with 21 points, but he was the only Friar to post a double-digit mark. The team shot just over 30% from the floor, compared to the Bluejays’ 52%.
Despite the loss, Providence is a lock for the NCAA Tournament with a 26-5 overall record. They’ll find out their seeding this coming Sunday.
The Friars’ win over Creighton late last month secured the program’s first-ever Big East regular season title.
Creighton, the 5-seed in the Big East Tournament, advances to the finals on Saturday night. They’ll take on the winner of Villanova and UConn.
