Rumored Specs And Features Inside

There’s something big on the horizon, and it’s coming from Samsung. Is it a smartphone (Galaxy S22, perhaps), a tablet (Galaxy Tab S8) or something else entirely that’ll fall into the Samsung Galaxy S product line? Well, that’s a question we can’t yet answer yet, but the hype for this announcement and the pending Samsung UNPACKED Event now has a home on Samsung’s website.

While Samsung’s website allows you to sign up to be notified as soon as more official information is released about the company’s pending announcements, rumors are circulating like wildfire around the Internet—but some rumors are more credible than others.

It’s doubtful that whatever new Samsung mobile devices are announced will allow you to communicate directly with aliens, animals, or the dearly departed, but you can bet that the equipment will support Google Translate and allow you to hold near-real-time conversations with people who speak other languages—and do so at lightning fast speed, thanks to 5G connectivity.

Right now, you’re able to reserve your spot to be among the first to hear the pending product announcements, plus unlock exclusive offers related to the new products being announced. According to Samsung, “a whole new Galaxy of innovations await.”

Be sure to sign up online for an extra $50 in Samsung Credit, plus become eligible for the highest online trade-in values on eligible devices, and get zero percent APR financing (with no money down required) when you choose the Samsung Financing option as your payment method once the product announcements are revealed and a pre-order option is available.

Here’s What Some Of The Rumors Are Saying

Previously, Samsung has announced plans to retire its Galaxy Note series and expand the Samsung Galaxy S product line. While a date for the Samsung Unpacked 2022 event has not been formally released, the Korean-based Digital Digest website suggests that the event will happen in February—likely on February 8 or February 9, at 10:00am (EST)—and could include the release of the Samsung Galaxy S22 series of smartphones (or whatever Samsung ends up calling it), which will represent the company’s most powerful flagship smartphones.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 is expected to come in multiple hardware configurations, with several screen size options. If past years are any indication, there will likely be three new smartphone models—the Galaxy S22, S22 Plus and S22 Ultra. The core model of each smartphone will come with a specific amount of RAM and internal storage, but upgrade options at the time of purchase will be available.

A report from Android Police suggests that the retail pricing for the new S22 smartphones could be up to $100 higher (or at least comparable) to last year’s models, but that the hardware will include less RAM (perhaps only 8GB). In other words, don’t expect a price drop for this year’s smartphone models compared to last year.

As for internal storage, options could include 512GB or up to 1TB for a higher base price, but these are mere rumors at this point. To help keep the new smartphones affordable, you’ll definitely want to take advantage of trade-in offers and pre-order bonuses, especially if you’re planning on acquiring the highest-end S22 Ultra.

From an overall design standpoint, @OnLeaks released a video on Twitter showing “dummy” versions of Samsung’s yet-to-be-announced smartphones. The short video revealed form factors similar to previous Samsung Galaxy Note smartphones—including one with squared-off edges and two models with rounded edges, with between three and four rear-facing cameras (depending on the model).

While we can most certainly expect improvements to the cameras all around, the S22 and S22 Plus could potentially offer rear-facing cameras with a 50MP Wide, 12MP telephoto, and 12MP ultra wide-angle lens, while the S22 Ultra could offer a 108MP wide angle, two separate 12MP telephoto cameras, and a 12MP ultra wide-angle camera (at least according to a leak from @FrontTron on Twitter). Other hardware improvements or modifications are expected to be incremental, but Samsung could have a few surprises in store.

As for internal and rechargeable battery sizes for the rumored three versions of the smartphone, we may be looking at a 3,800mAh battery for the S22, a 4,600mAh battery for the S22 Plus, and a 5,000mAh battery for the S22 Ultra—which basically translates to all-day battery life.

Another educated guess is that all three new smartphone models will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Generation 1 processor. It’s the company’s most powerful mobile processor, so overall speed and response time improvements are likely.

Regarding the S22 Ultra, a successor to the Galaxy Note, it’ll probably have S Pen (stylus) integration and four (maybe five) rear-facing cameras.

Meanwhile, Samsung will likely announce new tablet models as well during its upcoming Samsung Unpacked Event. Again, rumors speculate that a Samsung Galaxy Tab S8, Tab S8 Plus and Tab S8 Ultra will replace the current Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 models, and each will offer some design changes and technological improvements. Stay tuned to see what exciting news Samsung has in store for 2022.
