SAMSUNG has been accused of throttling the performance of more than 10,000 apps running on its latest smartphone.

The Galaxy S22 range reportedly makes apps including Strava, LinkedIn and Microsoft Office run slower due to an apparent bug.

According to multiple reports, the culprit is Samsung’s Game Optimizing Service (GOS), a built-in app designed to boost gaming performance.

The company says that GOS helps to eradicate performance problems such as lagging and overheating when playing games.

To do this, it limits the performance of some gaming apps by inhibiting the device’s powerful processors.

However, according to Korea’s Maeil Business Newspaper and a number of user reports online, GOS is throttling apps that it shouldn’t.

The software – which is also packed into a number of Samsung’s previous smartphone ranges – kicks in when a gaming app launches.

Twitter user @GaryeonHan highlighted that the list of apps that qualify as “games” is long and includes many that are not related to gaming.

He shared a screengrab of that list online, found by Samsung fans allegedly after digging through the code of the Android operating system that runs on Samsung’s phones.

Curious entrants include Microsoft Office and YouTube Vanced.

“Samsung has put performance limits on more than 10,000 apps that we use in our daily life, not just games,” @GaryeonHan tweeted.

He added that GOS seems to activate even when it’s not required, such as when a device’s temperature is within a reasonable range.

Samsung fans took to Twitter to vent their frustrations, with one suggesting that buyers of the £770 Galaxy S22 were not getting the performance they paid for.

They jibed: “So you bought a Galaxy S22 which is supposed to have the best hardware around and despite that.. games don’t really play as they should.

“The problem isn’t bad chipset performance..The problem is Samsung’s GOS (Games Optimization Service)that throttles CPU and GPU performance.”

Samsung is said to be investigating the issue and is expected to release an official statement in the coming days.

The Sun has reached out to Samsung for comment.
