Skyrim Glitch Hilariously Transforms Player Into a Horse

An Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim player recently encountered a glitch so game-breaking that their Dragonborn character turned into a controllable horse.

While exploring The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, one player encountered a glitch that hilariously transformed their Dragonborn into a horse. Humorous Skyrim glitches seem a dime a dozen, with users regularly finding new in-game hiccups that make for hilarious gameplay videos and screenshots. One recent bug, for example, involved one of the RPG’s many Guard NPCs racing around in the background while a player conversed with Grelka, the weapons merchant located in Riften. Another funny error that made the rounds last month saw a deer perform a backflip after being zapped with a lightning spell.

The fifth mainline Elder Scrolls installment reentered the spotlight late last year due to its 10th anniversary, a milestone that Bethesda Softworks and Bethesda Game Studios celebrated by deploying an Anniversary Edition of the seminal role-playing title. Skyrim’s content-rich Anniversary Edition came packed with fishing mechanics, Survival Mode, and hundreds of Creation Club offerings. In true Skyrim fashion, though, players have also found themselves navigating a whole host of in-game bugs – and not just those of the giant insect variety.

Reddit user Sherlock_DaVinci recently stumbled across a glitch so rough that it turned their Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim character into a horse. Yes, an actual, fully controllable steed. The Redditor’s post didn’t detail what conditions led to this type of bug, but Skyrim’s track records suggest it could be any number of things. Perhaps the player simply booted up the game and learned of their Dragonborn’s horse metamorphosis on the spot in a very Kafkaesque fashion? Regardless of the circumstances that led to this gem, the below video makes a good case for a Maneater sequel that trades in sharks for horses.

Skyrim’s in-game hiccups have continuously provided laughs for the last decade and change. This player-to-horse transformation may take the cake in some regards, though. Immersion-breaking glitches aside, the quick clip above makes it seem as though the user is having a good time running around on four hooves. Seriously, how many people would be opposed to Maneater-like horse RPG? (Minus the wanton murder, of course.)

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim originally hit store shelves for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 over 10 years ago in November 2011. It remains a seminal experience, laying the groundwork for the vast majority of open-world and RPG titles that followed in its wake. While the long-awaited Elder Scrolls 6 is still several years out from release, fans of Bethesda Games Studios will be able to explore an all-new role-playing adventure from the studio when Starfield hits PC and Xbox later this year.
