TL;DR
- Motorola has teased a device called the Moto Edge X.
- It’s believed this phone will be the first device with the Snapdragon 898 SoC.
We’re winding down the year, and one December tradition is Qualcomm launching a new flagship smartphone processor. We’re expecting the Snapdragon 898 to be revealed next month, and it now seems like Motorola might be the first brand to offer a phone with this SoC.
Motorola general manager Chen Jin revealed on Weibo that a so-called Moto Edge X is coming. The executive further claimed that the device would be “infinitely powerful.” Check out the attached teaser image below.
Of course, this post alone doesn’t suggest that Motorola will offer a Snapdragon 898 phone soon. But that’s where veteran Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station comes in, asserting that the Moto Edge X will be the first announced Snapdragon 898 handset. Check out the machine-translated post below.
We’re guessing that the phone might only be available in China at first though. So you might not want to hold your breath for a global release before the end of the year.
Nevertheless, it wouldn’t be the first time we see a brand-new flagship phone launch weeks after the relevant flagship Snapdragon chip is revealed. Xiaomi launched the Snapdragon 888-toting Mi 11 in China in late December, coming mere weeks after the chipset was revealed. So there is a precedent for this to happen.
