What To Expect With Samsung’s Next Foldable

Various Galaxy Z Fold 4 rumors suggest some rather ambitious upgrades, both to the design and the hardware. Here’s what to expect from the foldable.

Various Galaxy Z Fold 4 rumors suggest that Samsung will be making some ambitious changes to its next flagship foldable smartphone. Given that the leaks for Samsung’s previous foldable were mostly accurate, these rumors might not be that far from the actual product arriving later in 2022. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 was launched in August 2021, bringing a couple of surprises to the overall package.

The Galaxy Z Fold 3 featured some much-needed improvements over the Galaxy Z Fold 2, including a sharper screen, an under-display selfie camera, and S-pen support, just to name a few. Of course, Samsung’s upcoming foldable phone is rumored to have just as many upgrades, if not more. With the latest Galaxy Z Fold 4 expected to release within the same Q3 time frame as its predecessor, the rumor mill has been actively churning out numerous leaks as its release date draws closer.

For starters, alleged renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 4 were posted by tech tipster Waqar Khan via a tweet and a YouTube video. The leak only includes exterior images showcasing the foldable’s new design but suggests it will feature two under-display fingerprint scanners. One of the sensors will be integrated into the main screen, while the other will be situated on the outside cover display, something that hasn’t been done before. In late 2021, Korean tipster “yeux1122” divulged some key details about Samsung’s next foldable phone, claiming it would feature an under-display camera on both the inner and outer displays. For context, the Fold 3 has an under-display camera but only on the inside. Apart from this, the next foldable is rumored to feature better cameras, a lighter weight, improved water resistance and added dust resistance, among other upgrades.

Is There Any Truth To The Galaxy Z Fold 4 Rumors?

Given that the leaks and rumors about the Galaxy Z Fold 4 don’t seem too far-fetched, many of these upgrades are likely to be seen on Samsung’s next foldable. This means that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 could look a lot sleeker with its tri-lens rear cameras each coming with their own individual bulge, instead of its predecessor’s triple camera module. It won’t be much of a surprise if Samsung improves the Galaxy Z Fold 3’s hinge either, considering this is something that could benefit from a design upgrade.

Since the Galaxy Z Fold 3 only comes with an IPX8 water-resistance rating, it makes sense for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 to add dust resistance to the mix. With the Galaxy Z Fold series already being a perfectly-sized device to use an S-pen on, it would also be ideal for Samsung to finally give it a dedicated stylus slot as well. Regardless of the changes, Samsung will likely want to hold on to its foldable crown with its next phone, especially as there are now more powerful competitors in the market.
