A USSD code menu for buying mobile data.

Hadlee Simons / Android Authority

There are all kinds of phone plans out there. From basic super-cheap ones to expensive ones with all the frills. From prepaid to contract options. From unlimited data plans to capped data usage plans. We recently conducted a poll to find out just how much you pay for your phone plan. We also got some interesting insights about the kind of plans and services you’re using. Here are the results of that survey.

How much are you paying for your phone service each month?

Results

We received over 4,300 votes in our poll about how much our readers pay for their phone services. While the answers range from anywhere between $4 to $40, a majority of our readers — 35.7% — end up paying over $40 for their phone plan.

9% of our readers also have phone plans that cost under $4. An equal number of people go for phone service plans that cost between $10 to $14.99 and $15 to $19.99.

Plans priced between $7 to $9.99 and $20 to $24.99 were the next most picked options.

Here’s what respondents had to say about the plans and services they use.

Comments

Eric James Pearson: Mint mobile year plans are the best!

Stanley Kubrick: I currently have a T-Mobile Magenta 55+ plan. I pay $65.00 per month for one line but with the 40GB of hot spot, this is also my ONLY internet for the whole house. So, not having any other internet costs…$65.00 per month for unlimited everything cell Service and internet access is not bad. That will all be changing very soon. I have read up on Mint mobile end-user reviews and the vast majority are not favorable at all. In fact, many, many people say to stay as far away as you can!

Dick B.: T-mobile Military: 6 unlimited data phone lines & 1 unlimited data tablet for $130. Pretty sweet.

Evie: €20 a month to activate unlimited data and Three to Three calls. That 20 can then be used on other calls or for Play Store purchases (YouTube Premium and the odd IAP)

duckofdeath: Three has great prices but abhorrent customer disservice. I used to be them for years, but I gave up on them when they conned me the second time, with phone insurance they deflected through a cynical scheme where your only chance to talk to someone is on the phone with a subcontractor who just didn’t give a flying fudge as they most likely get a commission on how many insurance claims they can dodge. Three is simply not worth it. It’s the Ryanair of mobile. Looks great, but they will get you to pay three times as much as you thought you would.
I’m now on a 35 euro contract with Eir. They seem to have sensible customer service and as a bonus, their coverage maps aren’t exaggerated either.

Mark McCoskey: Still in the T-Mobile ONE Unlimited 55+ where we pay $60 for 2-lines, so $30 each.

Spookyleaf: In the UK. I pay £16 (approx $22) a month for unlimited calls, texts and 100GB of data to do whatever I want with. It was a 12-month SIM-only deal.

AndroidBR: Unlimited everything for $25 bucks a month at Metro by T-Mobile but no hotspot.

kld2009: I’ve had Verizon’s Visible for a year but I’m soon to be going someplace else. The slowdowns, the limited specific phones Verizon deems worthy of being on their network, and very, very limited customer support. But hey, $25 a month you get what you pay for.

Shone2527: $30 a month here on Visible’s party pay! Unlimited everything including hotspot! Owned by Verizon on Verizon’s network.

Eoaoos: $15 month. Mint Mobile. Used to pay much more with Tmo and Sprint for decades.

thesecondsight: I have T-Mobile’s original ONE Plan Military. Even though it’s been officially retired, my plan is grandfathered. I pay $80.00 for two lines with unlimited talk, text and data on all lines. Taxes and fees are already included. My plan also includes the following:

  • Simple Global: unlimited text and data roaming and low flat-rate calling in 140+ countries and destinations
  • Mobile Without Borders: free calling and texting to and from Mexico and Canada and up to 5 GB of free high-speed data when traveling there
  • Gogo Inflight: free unlimited texting all flight long and 1 hour of free smartphone Wi-Fi on all Gogo-equipped domestic flights
  • Netflix Standard or FHD 2-screen plan for $2 (up to $10.99/mo. value) with 2+ qualifying lines
  • 20GB of high-speed mobile hotspot data
