Elden Ring Bug Fixes Are Coming Following Backlash, Promises Developer

FromSoftware issued a statement promising that Elden Ring’s performance issues and save data woes will be addressed in upcoming patches.

Amid backlash about Elden Ring’s performance issues and save data troubles, FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco issued a statement saying fixes for these problems and others are in the works. Elden Ring’s review bombing on Steam evinces discontentment among those who were most excited for the RPG’s long-awaited release. In the several hours since launch, Elden Ring has struggled mightily with crashes, frame rate hiccups, and stuttering on PC, even for users who boast high-end rigs.

Previously set to hit PC and consoles in January of this year, Elden Ring hit digital stores and retailers today, February 25. The latest FromSoftware launch comes on the heels of glowing reviews across that board, which went live online earlier this week. Critics praised every aspect of the ambitious experience, from the engaging open-world and skillfully crafted aesthetic to the challenging gameplay and awe-inspiring lore. Some even dubbed it a masterpiece, a difficult point to argue against since Elden Ring is now OpenCritic’s highest-rated game. However, launch troubles with the title mean that even the most faithful of FromSoftware fans remain unconvinced of such praise.

In the wake of Elden Ring being review bombed on Steam, FromSoftware and publisher Bandai Namco shared a message promising to tackle the myriad issues currently plaguing the game on PC and consoles. For starters, while developers will work to fix any and all frame rate-related woes on PC, the statement recommends that players update their graphics card drivers as it could drastically improve performance. Patches set to arrive “in the near future” will also address mouse sensitivity and problems with launching Elden Ring’s Easy Anti-Cheat service. Meanwhile, PS5 players can rest assured that FromSoftware aims to correct save data errors in a future update. One solution for this particular hiccup requies PS5 users to close Elden Ring by opening the system menu with the ‘Option’ button before pressing ‘Quit Game.’

Unfortunately, FromSoftware’s and Bandai Namco’s statement made no mention of potential fixes for frame rate issues on PS5. Others have advised PS5 users to purchase a PS4 copy of Elden Ring for the new console, as it apparently provides the best performance on PlayStation platforms at present. Hopefully, this problem, too, will receive a resolution sometime soon.

Acting as yet another evolution of FromSoftware’s signature Soulsborne formula, Elden Ring offers an open-world adventure set in The Lands Between. FromSoftware crafted the vast domain in conjunction with famed fantasy writer George R.R. Martin, who has shouted the praises of both the studio and Elden Ring at every turn. Performance bugs aside, fans can at long last experience the fantastical world for themselves.
