Microsoft has announced a range of Surface devices, and the star of the show is the Surface Laptop Studio. It can’t transform into a car, but it can be folded, turning from a laptop into a tablet-like device.

Featuring a 14.4-inch, 2400×1600 resolution touchscreen with 120Hz and Dolby Vision support, the Surface Laptop Studio has three display modes. The first, laptop, is the default mode, where the device is a regular laptop. The second, stage, has the display more forward and angled up, hiding the keyboard while the touchpad is still exposed for a more comfortable video viewing experience. The third, studio, has the display flat on the keyboard, and the device becomes more like a tablet, suitable for drawing and note-taking.

This means the Surface Laptop Studio will support Microsoft’s new stylus, the Surface Slim Pen 2, which can be tucked under the device’s base magnetically where it can be charged as well. This new pen has a custom chip, Microsoft G6, and built-in haptic that will make drawing and writing feel that much closer to writing on pen and paper. Microsoft also promises increased accuracy and better shading.

There will also be the new Surface Pro 8, with a larger 13-inch, 2880×1920 display and Dolby Vision. This device has been upgraded from its predecessor with the front camera capable of 1080p video recording and the 10MP back camera capable of 4K recording. It also has dual far-field microphones, with 2W speakers supporting Dolby Atmos. And of course, it will also be compatible with the new Surface Slim Pen 2.

Finally, there is the Surface Go 3. Other than updated processor models, with either a dual-core Intel Pentium Gold 6500Y or a quad-core 10th Gen Intel Core i3-10100Y, it is exactly the same as the Surface Go 2.

The Surface Laptop Studio can be pre-ordered now starting from US$1,599.99. The Surface Pro 8 can be pre-ordered as well, starting from US$1,099.99, and the Surface Go 3 can be pre-ordered too for US$399.99. Finally, the Surface Slim Pen 2 can be pre-ordered for US$129.99. All the devices will be released on 5 October 2021.
